Why I Bought the A7CII + My Next Project

My Next Project

I’m thrilled to kick off a new long-term project—a blend of video mini-documentaries and off-camera flash environmental portraits highlighting pioneers, visionary individuals, artists, and those pursuing unique, nostalgic ventures in a changing world.

I’m an impatient guy. With no release date for the Sony A7V, I decided to order an A7CII to reignite my passion for photography. While it has some limitations for flash photography, its compact size, improved autofocus, and better color science than the A7IV made it an easy choice for me.

I just got the camera and haven’t even set it up yet, but I’ll be using it for the first time next week in Paris for the first shoot of my next project.

Alongside content for creators, I’ll be sharing my knowledge of dramatic lighting and insights from my documentary filmmaking journey right here in this newsletter.

I can’t wait to take you along on this journey!

Why S-Cinetone is the Secret Weapon for Solo Filmmakers

It can feel like using S-Log3 is a requirement because that’s what the "serious" filmmakers do. If you’re juggling filmmaking as a hobby or side hustle, you know time is precious. You’d rather focus on telling your story than getting lost in endless color grading tweaks.

That’s exactly why I’ve embraced S-Cinetone.

Updated Shooting Checklists

My free checklist for the Sony ZV-E1 has garnered some interest, so I’ve streamlined it and expanded it to include other Sony cameras, like the FX3, A7SIII, A7IV, and my new favorite, the A7CII.
